BHP Billiton Yabulu Eco-Active Centre

BHP Billiton Eco Active Centre logo

A unique element within Riverway is the BHP Billiton Yabulu Eco-Active Centre, a pavilion building overlapping land and water. This facility utilises experimental energy sources, such as solar and photovoltaic technologies, to demonstrate their potentials for community use.

The Eco-Active Centre is open from 6am to 6pm, seven days a week and is Riverway’s environmental interpretation centre for the wider community and is also available as an educational centre for school groups from the Townsville/Thuringowa region and beyond.

The BHP Billiton Yabulu Eco-Active Centre educates visitors about the sustainable practices that have been included in Riverway and at the same time aims to help visitors explore the Side view of BHP Billiton Yabulu Eco Active Centreprinciples and practices of sustainable living. Most importantly, it highlights sustainable lifestyle options that visitors can readily adopt as their own. In doing this, the facility addresses an increasingly urgent need to curb wasteful and damaging practices and, in this way plays an important role in our global future. The central message of the centre is "Sustainability is everyone's responsibility."
