What's Next

The next stage of the Riverway have been concentrated at Pioneer Park, however when completed, Riverway will stretch along 11km of the Ross River from Black Weir to the Dam.

The next node of Riverway is the Apex Park/Upper Ross Shopping centre area, with master planning aiming to create a safe, accessible and vibrant community hub at the Upper Ross shopping precinct, providing quality services, business and recreational experiences for locals and visitors.

Two residential precincts and a commercial precinct have been included in Pioneer Park to achieve the 'live, work and play' principle. The residential precincts will provide funding through the sale of parcels of land and an ongoing rate base. In total, the private sector will contribute approximately $100M worth of residential and commercial development on the Pioneer Park site. More than one thousand people will live, work and play at Riverway within the next five years.

One of the many positive spin-offs of Council's vision and investment is the increased interest and development activity experienced in the Thuringowa Central area opposite Riverway. Anticipating this positive impact, a City Centre Masterplan was produced to guide, inform and attract developers into the City. The Masterplan is in essence a vision for the future form and spatial layout of the City Centre to be developed over a nominal 20 year timeframe. The primary basis of the concept is the creation of connecting streets and spaces that will link Riverway, existing and new buildings into a cohesive and active city centre.
